Muted, flat and neutral colors were once the quintessential choice for homeowners when it came to siding and roofing. Believe it or not, the growing trend of bright colors on homes have only caught on quite recently. This brought about a flood of options in the industry. While this is a positive development, generally speaking, it does introduce an unexpected challenge for many – deciding on a color is now harder than ever.
Let AnyWeather Roofing, a GAF Master Elite® contractor, give you a few pointers on siding color selection and help you sort through all the confusion.
Consider Your Surroundings
One good way to start narrowing down the choices is by looking at your immediate neighborhood. What color do your neighbors have on their homes? From there you can decide whether you want to fit in or stand out. Alternatively, you could also take parts of your home with unchangeable colors like your pillars, gutters and roof. Consider them when choosing a siding color to achieve a visually consistent design.
If matching colors do not appeal to you, you could take a more contrasting route and choose colors that are quite different from a few of your architectural trims and finishes. For example, contrast your dark-colored window frames and entryways with lighter shades of siding. Be careful when doing your designs this way as this could just as easily backfire. Choosing the wrong colors can give emphasis on the wrong areas and take away from rather than improve upon your overall appeal.
